Slightly disturbing story yesterday that is running further today. One aspect of the remarks by Michael Ancram (former deputy leader of the Tory party) was he criticised civil partnerships stating: "They are not the equivalent of marriage."Giving them that equivalence does not enhance them; instead it diminishes the value of real marriage. As part of the wider crumbling in Tory modernisation this is a worrying step and raises questions about whether the Conservatives plan to amend the law relating to civil partnerships. Their existing commitment to the repeal of the Human Rights Act is already worrying enough. That David Cameron did not condemn this remarks is also worrying.
