N-Pride Update

I've mentioned the plans for N-Pride a couple of times on this blog. This is the new pride event for the North East. I've recently received some more info about the event and details of how to get involved for those interested. I thought it worthwhile included all the info here so here you go:

Northern Pride is a new and exciting Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender ‘not-for-profit’ festival for the North East. Representatives of the LGBT communities from across the region have come together to ensure that the North East has a Pride celebration that represents and celebrates our diversity.

The range of events being organized as part of the festival should ensure that there is something for everyone: whether you want to learn more about LGBT history or dance the night away, admire the work of LGBT artists or chill out at a Pink Picnic.

What’s more, on Saturday 12th July Northern Pride will be organizing the North East’s first Pride Parade to include floats. The Parade is open to the whole LGBT community and our friends so get the glad rags out and get painting those banners as we take over Newcastle city centre.

The Parade will end at Leazes Park where the Pink Picnic will kick off at 1pm. This will be a relaxed affair with lots of activities to take part in. Young people and families with children will have lots to do when the Play and Youth bus rolls up. Whether you want to try your hands on the DJ decks or get your face painted there will be suitable activities whatever your age. The sporty among us will be represented too, with football and rugby teams showing us how it’s done. For those of us who haven’t played sport since school there will be an opportunity to take part in relaxed and informal ‘taster’ sessions. There will be lots more besides: with information stalls, music and much more to be confirmed. Of course, if that all sounds a bit energetic for a Saturday you could just pack a picnic, chill out and watch the world go by!

Remember, this is your Northern Pride, managed and run by LGBT people from across the region so come along and get involved to show the wider community that we are here and proud.
