The Guardian carried a pretty impressive piece yesterday that visited and photographed some of the 18,000 couples awaiting a court decision that will decide whether proposition 8 will stand and their marriage's fall. The Guardian piece can be read here. One thing you couldn't do on the paper version was click on the photos and here people describe their story. On the web page, you can do just that and see more photos.
Although there does seem anger there doesn't seem to be a huge massive repeal 8 momentum. It's hard to get an accurate view from the other side of the Atlantic but when I was in San Francisco last month, it was noticeable that although a view "No on 8" posters were knocking about there was no repeal 8, or next stage campaign. Looking at the Obama administration, bogged down with an economy going ever more pear shaped by the day and a government that seems unable to actually appoint people (anyone else not paid their taxes boys?) , I don't see a progressive queer social agenda coming anytime soon unless people start organising at a grass roots level.
You can see more of the couples affected in the below web campaign video:

This issue amazes me... how on earth can a provision be made that effectively annuls marriages? Imagine if the provision was just banning all marriages, same-sex and heterosexual.. I imagine it would be less popular. People are callous...
