Child-on-Child Sex Abuse

ABC News features a fascinating AP report on the subject of child-on-child sex abuse.  It's quite a detailed story with some fascinating academic and research insights, highlighting the complexities of this issue.  Whilst society arguably has a clear idea of the 'pedophile' and 'child abuser', cases of child-on-child abuse  disrupt these pre-conceptions, and challenge that totemic concept: childhood innocence.

"Child abuse" is the new "meme", and applied to anything to do with child sexuality.

Even my own naked toddler photos are so labelled. My parents are abusers for taking the photos. And I am an abuser for looking at the photo of a naked child (myself). No abuse ever took place, and does take place.

To some extent, this is a resurgence of Victorian "self abuse", where masturbation is ignored, but anything else is misapplied.

The legal system is partly to blame for mislabelling crimes. Two consenting 15-year-olds are deemed to (a) have abused each other (b) to be guilty of statutory rape, where no abuse, and no rape actually took place. This is not to say that their behaviour acceptable, but it certainly wasn't as described.
